Kesän purjehduskausi lähestyy ja sen vuoksi on aika punoa pajumatot viikinkilaivoihin. Niin, ja myös suomalaisiin uiskoihin myös... Eli Sotkan sisustaminen kesää varten on tehty. Pajumattoja tarvitaan painolastikiven alle, jotta kivet eivät kesän aikana pääse hankaamaan pohjalautoja vasten.
Pajumatot eivät synny itsekseen, ne tehdään uudelleen joka kevät. Joten: seuraavaksi laaja kuvareportaasi aiheesta

Summer and sailing season is closing, so it is time to weave wicker mats for vikingships. And also for finnish iron age boats. This means that also Sotka´s interior is being prepared.
The mats are needed under the ballast stones, so that the stones will not rub agains the bottom boards of the ship.
The mats needs to be done every spring. So here follows a pictorial lecture on subject

HOW TO MAKE WICKER MATS FOR VIKINGSHIPS
and some country living

1. Aluksi tarvitaan appiukko, vesijättömaata, pajukko ja raivaussaha. Annetaan appiukon kaataa pajut.
1. You start with a father in law, some alluvion, some willow and a clearing saw. Let the father in law cut down the willow.
2. Raahaa pajut peräkärryyn.
2. Drag the willow to the trailer.

3. Pidä silmällä koiraasi. Se voi tehdä löytöjä...
3. Keep an eye on your dog. She might just find something...
...kuten pesällisen hiirenpoikasia ja kunnon kääpiöpinserin tapaan nitistää ne.

4. Työnteon lomassa on myös tärkeää juoda kahvia ja levätä.

5. Kotona lajittele ja karsi pajut. Valitse sopiva määrä tukevia oksia loimeksi ja paina ne maahan.
5. At home sort the willows, pics a suitable amount of thick ones to a warp and press them firmly in the ground.

6. Kudo notkeilla pajuilla tukeva ristikko. Katso reikäkoko laivan painokivien mukaan niin, että kivet eivät mahdu putoamaan välistä aluksen pohjalle.
6. Weave with lithe twigs. See that the holes are small enough so that the stones will not fit to fall between them.
7. Voit vahvistaa liitoksia vitsaksista tehdyillä solmuilla.
7. You can fortify the joints with wicker knots.

8. Rentoudu välillä esimerkiksi pienellä vappuisella marssilla pihan ympäri laivan lippua samanaikaisesti heiluttaen...
8. Remember to relax, for example by a small May Day march aroud the garden, waving the ships flag...
9. Valmis pajumatto on tukeva ja kestää mainiosti koko kesän rasitukset. Näitä tarvitaan koosta riippuen 6-8 kappaletta.
9. Ready mats are sturdy and works very well the whole summer. You will need 6-8 of these.
