Tilattu: hylly. From sewing to sawing.

Ensi viikonvaihteessa pakkaamme siis automme ja lähdemme Ruotsiin suuren suureen keskiaikaleiriin eli Tuplasotaan. Majoitumme kaksimastoiseen paviljonkiin, kokoamme sinne keskiaikaisen sänkymme ja levitämme ruokahuoneeseen pöydän, penkin ja jakkarat. Mutta... hylly olisi kiva myös. Siinä voisi pitää vaikkapa astioita.
Niitä myydään kyllä ulkomaisissa alan nettikaupoissa, mutta kun talossa asuu taitava mies, mikä estää tekemästä itse... tässä Rikun aherruksen tulos:

Next weekend we are packing our car and heading to big medieval event, Doublewars. We are sleeping in doublemast pavillion, we have a medieval bed, we have a table, stool, bench.. but I would like to have a shelf too. I would have my dishes or something like than in it.
Medieval shelfs are sold in webshops, but since the husband is very skillful, why not make it by himself.. so this is what Riku made:

Ensin hän haki lautaa ja muotoili. Ehkäpä jotain goottilaista? First he took some wood and made some design. Maybe gothic style would be nice?

Sitten hän laski hyllyille hyvät paikat, suunnitteli liitoksen ja teki tarvittavat aukot.
The he counted good places for the shelfs, designed the joints and made holes.

Välillä on hyvä tuumailla. It is good to take a planning brake every now and then.

Seuraavaksi hän sahasi. Hyllyn pää tulee osaksi liitosta. The he was sawing the ends ot the shelfs, which also make a part of the joint.

Sitten hieman lisää suunnittelua ja sovittelua. Hyllyn päähän tulee kiila, siksi reikä. Then more designing and fitting. There will be a wedge, that is why the there is a hole.

Eikä sitten mitään sinne päin lätkittyä, vaan yksityiskohtia myöten mietittyjä asioita. Liitos ennen viimeistelyä. No so-and-so stuff, Riku plans even all the details. The joint before finishing.

Osat on veistetty, höylätty ja ja viimeistely tehdään tietysti olohuoneessa. All the parts are carved, planed and sanded and the finishing is done in our livingroom...

Lähikuva tappiliitoksen teosta: ei nääs ole ruuveilla kiinni tämä huonekalu. Tapin päähän sahataan pieni rako, siihen tulee kiila ja kun tappi reiän pohjaan paikalleen, kiila levittää tapin ja liitoksesta tulee tiukka.
A close up for making the wooden pin: Riku sawed a small cut at the end, then he put a wedge in it and when hittiing the pin to tohe bottom of the hole, the wedge spreads the pin and the joint becomes tight. So there is no screws in this furniture.

Ja tällainen siitä tuli: 125 senttiä korkea, yli hylly metrin korkeudella. Hyllyjen syvyyn 20 senttiä ja pituus 85. Menee palasiksi ja voi pakata autoon.
And here it is ready: 125 cm high, top shelf on one meter. Depth 20 cm and shelfs are 85 cm long. It can be disassembled for transport.
